Progesterone After 45

Progesterone starts to drop dramatically the moment women turn 45. In fact, in women who stop ovulating (due to age), while estrogen drops by 60%, progesterone can drop as much as 90%. This is why women might need progesterone as the first line of support, before estrogen.

  • Fertility or menstrual problems
  • PMS or PMDD
  • Anxiety and restlessness
  • Irritability and nervousness
  • Low mood and depression, especially around ovulation and pre-period

  • Weight gain and cellulite, especially around the thighs and buttocks
  • Fluid retention – your fingers and toes swell up
  • Brain fog
  • Sagging skin
  • Low thyroid
  • Pain and inflammation
  • Osteoporosis
  • Excessive menstruation
  • Hypersensitivity
  • Migraine headaches before cycles
  • Decreased libido
  • Decreased HDL (“good” cholesterol)
DID YOU KNOW?
Have your clients always been good sleepers, and now they can't fall or stay asleep? It could be low progesterone.

After 45, your client's progesterone levels start dropping and can "suddenly" cause hot flashes, poor sleep, short periods, anxiety, and poor bone health.

The efficacy and quick absorption of ProgestPure Cream have made it one of the most helpful and therefore popular products in our community. This progesterone cream contains no parabens, mineral oils, fragrances, phthalates, or harsh preservatives.

Where to recommend applying progesterone for maximum effectiveness?

How Much Progesterone to Recommend and Where to Apply It

It will depend on how low and symptomatic your clients are, their diet, and stress levels (stress steals progesterone). We recommend having them start slow and slowly dosing up.

When recommending ProgestPure Cream, start with four pumps which will give 25 mg of bioidentical progesterone. They can double that (by doing it twice a day) to 50 mg per day if symptoms don’t improve. If they are generally sensitive, recommend starting with as little as one pump. Rotate the areas of application using fast-release areas and slow-release areas - see graphic on the right.

Another way to dose is to use body weight.

Women under 150 lbs: start with 20 to 30 mg of bioidentical progesterone.

Women over 150 lbs: start with 40 to 50 mg of bioidentical progesterone.

If you want to try a higher dosage, We recommend working with a skilled functional practitioner who knows the ins and outs of bioidentical hormones to test levels.

How to recommend usage
4 pumps per day

Recommended use: Suggest applying 4 pumps (25 mg Progesterone USP) one time per day to smooth skin areas, such as the wrists, inner arms or thighs, throat, neck, abdomen, or chest. For optimal use, suggest rotating the areas of application. Use the above guide on fast- and slow-release areas for guidance.

For women finished with menstruation (or nearly finished with menstruation):

Women going through peri-menopause, menopause, and post-menopause; who suffer from sleep disruption, hot flashes, or night sweats, can use topical progesterone for up to 25 days out of a 30-day calendar, with 5-7 days off, or as recommended by your healthcare provider.

For menstruating women:

Menstruating women are advised to use topical progesterone 5 to 7 days after the first day of their period and continue until the next period begins. Day 1 is the first day of the menstrual bleed. If their period is irregular, recommend using topical progesterone 7 days after the start of their period to teach the body to learn a new cycle. Stop whenever the period returns, and repeat or apply as recommended. Warning: This product can expose your clients to progesterone, a chemical known by the State of California to cause cancer. Frequently Asked Questions

For menstruating women, ProgestPure Cream supports progesterone levels within a normal range and may increase the likelihood of a healthy cycle and fertility. For peri-, menopausal, and post-menopausal women, ProgestPure Cream supports progesterone levels in the body and may help make this significant life change more pleasant.
The recommended dose is 20 to 30 mg (four pumps of ProgestPure Cream), once or twice per day, or as recommended by your health practitioner.
Women going through peri-menopause, menopause, and post-menopause; who suffer from sleep disruption, hot flashes, or night sweats, can use topical progesterone for up to 25 days out of a 30-day calendar, with 5-7 days off, or as recommended by your healthcare provider. Menstruating women are advised to use topical progesterone 5 to 7 days after the first day of your period and continue until the next period begins. Day 1 is the first day of your menstrual bleed. If your period is irregular, start using topical progesterone 7 days after you begin a period and teach your body to learn a new cycle. Stop whenever your period comes back again, and repeat, or apply as recommended by the leading physician.
Our topical progesterone cream provides 25 mg of bioidentical progesterone in four pumps.
ProgestPure Cream can be used to support progesterone levels to improve hormonal balance. If your client experiences irregular or short periods, low libido, migraines or headaches, hot flashes, sleep issues, anxiety, spotting, period pain or vaginal dryness, ProgestPure Cream could be an option to consider.
The bioidentical progesterone is derived from yams and is then modified, so the progesterone molecule resembles a human progesterone molecule.
No, this cream was designed for skin application, not vaginal application, as the vulva contains no progesterone receptors.
No, this product is not meant for use on the face. Topical progesterone can increase sebum and oil production so it can cause some sensitive women to have more breakouts or increased oily skin.
Yes, In fact, bioidentical progesterone is recommended for use after a hysterectomy even though most conventional doctors only prescribe estrogen. Functional endocrinology recommends for women with full or partial hysterectomy to supplement with both estrogen and progesterone.
Yes. Progesterone supplementation during postmenopause can be key to reducing or minimizing uncomfortable post-menopause symptoms.

Putting topical progesterone on the body allows it to bypass digestion and the liver which is beneficial for two reasons. One, it doesn’t tax the digestion and liver with yet another compound to be absorbed and metabolized. Two, if the gut and liver aren’t functioning optimally, there’s a risk the body could break down progesterone into “dirty” progesterone metabolites, which can be harmful.

Furthermore, oral progesterone is largely converted to allopregnanolone on its first pass through the liver. This isn’t the best choice as a progesterone replacement therapy, because allopregnanolone attaches to GABA receptors, creating anxiolytic (anti-anxiety) and somniferous (induces sleep) effects. Oral progesterone does not offer all the other benefits of progesterone (described above). For these reasons, we recommend progesterone in a topical form, not an oral form.

No, ProgestPure Cream does not contain soy.
Yes, men can take bioidentical progesterone in far smaller amounts and we recommend working under the supervision of a functional doctor.
Start slow and low, and slowly increase the amount used over time. For example, start with one pump of 6.25 mg once a day for 3 to 5 days and see how they do, then titrate up to 12.5 mg (2 pumps) for 3 to 5 days. Slowly increase to using 25 mg or 4 pumps.
Thin skin areas, such as wrists, inner arms or thighs, throat, neck, abdomen or chest, or as directed by their leading physician. ProgestPure Cream is not designed to be applied to the face or the vaginal area.
We ensure purity and potency for 2 years after the date on the bottle.
Yes, this is both vegan and vegetarian.
The essential oils in ProgestPure Cream are sourced from herbs and spices, including rosemary, star anise, and cinnamon. The oils are bound onto wild-crafted Acacia gum and have been either steam distilled or extracted with sub-critical CO2. They are non-GMO and are used as a natural preservative rather than harsh chemical preservatives typically found in a wide range of products.
We have found the scent to be very minimal, and don't notice an essential oil smell at all for those who are very sensitive. To us, it has the faintest clean smell.
The short answer: no. Firstly, progesterone starts to drop dramatically the moment we hit 40-45. In fact, in women who stop ovulating (due to age), while estrogen drops by 60%, progesterone can drop as much as 80 to 100%. Further progesterone depletion can happen with stress, infections, chronic inflammation, frequent travel, hypothyroidism, and rapid aging. Women who are over 40 and stressed (hello 👋), or identify with any of the above, will experience the most relief from topical progesterone.

This is an airless and tubeless package, and sometimes with the first pump, it requires a bit of finesse to get it moving.

Please suggest the steps below to correct the pumping issue with the airless packaging:

  1. Please ensure the lid/pump is secured tightly on the bottle.
  2. Turn the bottle upside down and shake. This will help move the product towards the top of the pump (similar to turning a condiment bottle such as mustard upside down to get the product to the top).
  3. Try to pump the bottle while holding it upside down. Continue to shake the product to the top of the pump. Use slow firm pumps. This will help to get the air out of the bottle.
  4. *Note: Pumping too quickly will not create the suction it requires.
